Some Like it Hotter Lichfield Garrick * * * * JUST fancy that. Marilyn Monroe is alive
and well in Lichfield, or at least she is in the shape of Sarah
Applewood who plays the famous Hollywood star in this very entertaining
fantasy musical play by Richard Hurford. With a perfect blonde wig and some dazzling tight
dresses, she is a 'looker' who really looks the part, and with the
ability to play the piano, ukele and clarinet Sarah could even claim to
have more talent than the movie icon. In fact the entire cast of six can sing and play
various instruments splendidly in the story of how Charlie, a hapless
middle-aged English fan, turns up in an ante-room to Heaven and manages
to perform with the stars he and his mother loved so much in the cinema
and on TV back on earth. Patrick Bridgman gives a fine performance as
Charlie, while Daniel Lloyd (Jack Lemmon) and Paul Matania (Tony Curtis)
sing well and deliver some outstanding comedy. Completing a sparkling cast are Sophie Byrne
(Billie) and Andrew Venning (Diamond), but the really big moments come
when the group sing Sweet Georgia Brown and Sarah turns on the sexual
charm with the final number, I Wanna Be Loved By You. Paul Marston
